“Nearly Effortless” Appalachian Mountain 700-Mile Towing Trip Made Possible By 2022 Chevy Silverado’s Super Cruise

Modern pickups drive almost like luxury sedans, and experts at Jalopnik admitted to being troubled this week. They weren’t troubled in the least by the high quality of segment-leading trucks such as our 2022 Silverado, but at the fact that so many families are using pickups as sedans.

Today’s trucks can boast amazing technology and a very high level of sophistication, and there are now so many ways to make the job easier. One of the ways that had only been portrayed on fantasy TV for years was to construct a truck that could drive itself, and staff writer Kevin Williams was eager to take a 2022 Silverado High Country through the Appalachian Mountains on a towing mission. As he stepped inside to begin his journey, he noted that the dashboard and center console had been completely restyled, with a fitting blue-tinted leather coating on all the surfaces.

Open-pore wood and more selective use of metal accents make for a higher-end first impression, along with a 13.4-inch touchscreen with some of the best-allocated colors on the market. It uses Google’s new car-based operating system, which is Android-based and boasts Google Maps along with Google Assistant. The flow felt straightforward and purposeful, the interface easy to use, and with Google Maps integrated into the OS, it helps with Super Cruise’s operation.

Super Cruise was once available only on Cadillacs and allows for completely hands-free driving. Kevin’s route for this journey began in Columbus, Ohio, and ultimately saw him finish in Winchester, Virginia. This was 350 miles of towing that went through Pennsylvania and Maryland first, with a large portion of the journey not having any cell phone service.

Kevin had completed this very same route with the much smaller Chevy Bolt, and was surprised to feel that the application served him just right in a larger and more powerful vehicle. The Silverado’s 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque mated to a ten-speed automatic can easily accomplish tow jobs involving a double-wide, and his combined load was around 5,500 lbs.

The Silverado’s massive capability combined with Super Cruise allowed for the ultimate towing experience with ease, and he noted early in the drive that he felt odd sitting with his hands in his lap when Super Cruise initially took over. Automatic lane change isn’t possible during a hefty tow, but automatic lane keeping and radar cruise operate at 100%. Over the roughly 700-mile journey to Virginia and back, Kevin used Super Cruise at every single stretch of road it was available. It maintained lane position without a single issue through Wheeling, West Virginia, and all warnings that the system was preparing to shut off were given with plenty of advance.

The built-in LED light in the steering wheel will suddenly flash red, and the seat will vibrate to alert the driver. When Kevin arrived at his final destination, he was astounded at how alert he felt, after not having to squint, hyper-focus, and handle the wheel at every single curve. Finishing his review by touting this setup as a “techno powerhouse” with more than 10,000 lbs of towing capability, this was an ideal testament to just how good things get when the innovations of tomorrow are combined with the awesome features and brute force of today!

2022 Chevy Silverado Rally Edition is Now Available on Custom and RST Trims, Officially Available for Orders

Trucks have become so popular over the years that we can hardly keep them on the lot here at West Chevy of Knoxville! In some exciting truck news, the GM Authority blog just reported that the optional Rally Edition package for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 full-size pickup is now officially available for order.

This package offers black rally stripes, black Chevy tailgate lettering, black Silverado and trim level badging, assist steps, 20-inch-high gloss black-painted aluminum wheels, black bowties, Chevytec spray-on bed liner, black chrome exhaust tip, and the awesome-sounding dual exhaust.  Right now, it is only offered on the Custom and RST trim levels. On the RST trim level, the 20-inch High Gloss Black wheels can optionally be swapped for the 22-inch-high gloss black wheels, and any diehard truck fan would agree that this urban and smooth streamlined look will make your truck pop visually!

Production for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will begin at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana in just three weeks, as well as the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada during spring 2022. The 2022 Silverado RST is once again offered as a mid-range trim level that is equipped with a selection of features to give it extra street performance. Up front, the 2022 Silverado RST features a body-color front bumper, which is paired with a body-color grille bar to create a nicely drawn-together look for the brand-new fascia.

The rear end features LED tail lights while the 2022 Silverado RST’s rear bumper is also body-color to match the front end. There is a signature Chevy script on the tailgate, and the Silverado 1500 has four engine options that start with the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline 4 L3B gas engine, which now can produce 430 lb-ft of torque.

We love the naturally-aspirated 6.2-L V8 L87 gas engine, especially for how it can hustle up a hill or through a quarry in just seconds! Come see us here at West Chevy for this and many other immaculate models that consistently get the job done!

Suspension and Wheel Updates Allow For 36,000 Lb. Towing Capacity on 2021 Chevy Silverado 3500

Staring down the barrel of an intimidating workload would make anyone realize that they need extra-durable, strong equipment at their disposal, and their choice of truck may determine just how much they get done. Fortunately for anyone out there facing heavy hauls in their near future, the 2021 Silverado HD stands poised to offer assistance! Previous models saw their capacity at 35,500 pounds of towing capacity, but the new model has added 500 pounds thanks to changes made to the wheels and suspension, for a total of 36,000 pounds!

We have looked into the updated Silverado HD in detail here at West Chevrolet in Knoxville, which begins with the Work Truck trim level. Other necessary equipment is the regular cab, a dual-rear-wheel setup, two-wheel drive, the Max Tow Package, and the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine paired with the 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. The 2500HD and the 3500HD already offer up to 15 available camera views to aid with towing, and they are "coming in hot" with five new trailering features on next year's model. The trailer length indicator makes changing lanes a snap during towing, and the Jack-knife alert assures that the trailer and truck stay aligned to prevent a life-threatening accident. While you are hitching your load you might realize that yourself in a hurry to make your schedule. The addition of improved rear trailer view makes the process easier along with cargo bed view enhancement and rear side view enhancement.

Owning a special edition truck is the ultimate opportunity to brand it as your own, and show your unique flair and personality. The Carharrt Special Edition for the LTZ trim is spiced up with a pinstripe design that uses the same gold hue displayed by the Carharrt logo. The hood gets extra black vents, the tailgate brandishes the bowtie logo, and chrome bits are present on the front grille. The Z71 Chrome Sport adds chrome accents and 20-inch wheel options, and there are other Silverado HD updates for the year such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. J.D. Power has named the Silverado HD as the highest-ranked large heavy-duty pickup for both long-term quality and initial quality, as the truck comes prepared to work hard for many rewarding and task-accomplishing years down the line.

The myChevrolet Mobile App is an incredibly useful way to keep organized with features such as pre-departure checklists, exterior lighting diagnostics, trailer maintenance reminders, and trailer tire pressure monitoring. Along with the extra towing ability as an excellent feature for a busy contractor or ranch hand, the StabiliTrack Electronic Stability Control System with Trailer Sway Control is on full-time duty preventing the trailer from swinging. During a sway incident, the sensor will detect the driver's intended yaw direction, while another measures the true yaw and sends a signal to the integrated Trailer Brake Control to take action.

Stay tuned for more updates on the 2021 Silverado HD, or come to West Chevrolet and test drive one for yourself! We know this is the perfect update to your personal vehicle or fleet!
