When one thinks hybrid cars, Chevrolet usually isn’t the first name that pops up. But with the upcoming new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, you might think bowtie when you think green car.
Borrowing the two electric motors from the Chevy Volt, the ’16 Malibu Hybrid is estimated to reach up to 48 mpg in the city and 45 mpg highway — and it looks good doing it. These estimated numbers can top the outputs of the hybrid versions of the Ford Fusion, KIA Optima and Hyundai Sonata according to Car and Driver.
Though it has the same electric motors as the Volt, the new hybrid Malibu has its own 1.8-liter engine with up to 122 horsepower, impressive for a hybrid sedan. Chevrolet said the Malibu Hybrid is already set up for maximum efficiency without any extra driver input.
The Malibu Hybrid also has the Volt’s braking system which is seamless and have more of a traditional full-gas engine feel, setting the Malibu apart yet again. The Malibu hybrid coming to West Chevrolet, your Knoxville Chevy dealer, in 2016 has the space of a midsize sedan, the styling of a Malibu and the environmental heart of a Volt. It might fly under the radar, but with this fuel economy, we think it will be soaring soon enough.
